And that’s a wrap. Another first class, Electrical Installation for a new build project completed in Bishops Stortford, Essex.
We were sent the drawings for this project, from an architect we have worked for previously. Back in June of 2020, we were asked to provide a basic cost. We were told it was going to be just a standard installation. A few socket outlets, a few lights and some more bits installed in between. But don’t get carried away, this is just a preliminary cost for tender.
Well, 12 months later and we finally have a finished project. Well, almost. Budget, what budget?
Final result is a new build dwelling designed to look like a modern, contemporary looking barn. Our client is a personally trainer, you tuber, blogger and video fitness expert, so naturally he was keen to have good lighting in his video areas and his home gym.
We quoted the project, we had a meeting, we quoted the project again, we had a start date, we quoted the project again and then we had our work cut out for us!
We went from a “a few sockets, switches and lights” to a full blown, high tech, modern and future proof installation. We’ve, got polished chrome sockets, flat plate with usb from heritage brass, we installed slimline LED light fittings that do not compromise the integrity of the warm roof and waterproof membrane. We used collingwood H2 down lights in the pool table area. Air conditioning was installed and two WiFi extenders were configured at either end of the new build barn to ensure that no matter where you were, you always had four bars of WiFi signal. God forbid we run out of internet!
The pièce de rèsistance for me was installing the WiFi and Bluetooth controlled music system. Three zones… Gym, Entertainment, Patio. We used Yamaha WXA series amplifiers to power 5 monitor audio speakers throughout the new build.

It really got me thinking about why people insist on having these ultra expensive systems in their homes, Sonos and bang and olufsen to name a couple. I often ask people if they would like a music system installed during their refurb and they always assume it’s going to cost the world. When you use a contractor that knows there way around a system and which brands and parts are better than others, you can often snag some really good deals. Remember, your often paying for a brand name, not the product. Shop around, there's some really good deals top be had!
In the last 6 months, There has been a lot of too and throw, a lot of changes, alterations additions and extras. A lot of favours and a shedload of ‘while you’re here’s’ but it’sso worth it when you can stand back and look at the beautiful new build project you have helped bring to life from just a drawing on a piece of paper.
I hope our client enjoys this amazing new space we have all worked tirelessly to create for him. I know it will improve the quality of his work and video production and hope this space brings him happiness and joy for years to come. I know we will be working together again soon as he has big and exciting ideas for other areas of his property that I am looking forward to assisting him with.
